LIC recruits through two main tracks — LIC AAO is a 3-stage officer exam (Prelims + Mains + Interview), while LIC Assistant is a 2-stage clerical exam (Prelims + Mains + Language Proficiency Test). Select a track below.

LIC AAO Prelims — 60 minutes, with sectional timing (20 minutes per section) · 100 questions · 70 marks. No negative marking for Generalist posts (Specialist/Legal posts have −0.25 per wrong answer in Reasoning & Quant). English Language is qualifying only — its marks are not counted for ranking.

Local Language Test (LPT): After Mains, shortlisted candidates appear for a Local Language Proficiency Test — qualifying only (pass/fail). No interview for LIC Assistant. LIC AAO Prelims is breadth — speed and accuracy. Mains is depth — Insurance Awareness, Financial Markets, and Descriptive English are the differentiators. LIC Assistant syllabus is similar to other bank clerical exams but with a strong Insurance Awareness component in Mains. LIC AAO & Assistant 2026 Calendar.

Based on LIC's 2025 notification cycle (AAO notification released 16 August 2025 for 841 vacancies, Prelims held 3 October 2025 — about 7 weeks later). All dates below are indicative until the official 2026 notification is released at licindia.in.

Eligibility

Can You Apply?

LIC AAO requires a graduate degree from a recognised university. LIC Assistant eligibility is simpler — a basic graduation requirement with no minimum percentage — broader than RBI Grade B's graduate-only path.

LIC AAO — Education

Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. No minimum percentage specified — LIC AAO is open to all graduates. For specialized streams: IT (B.E./B.Tech in CS/IT), CA (qualified CA), Legal (LLB with 60%), Rajbhasha (Hindi + English proficiency).

LIC AAO — Age Limit

LIC AAO: 21–30 years. LIC Assistant: 18–30 years. Age relaxation: +5 years (SC/ST), +3 years (OBC non-creamy), +10 years (PwBD), additional for Ex-Servicemen. Age calculated as of the cutoff date in the notification.

LIC AAO — Experience Requirement

No prior work experience required for either AAO Generalist or LIC Assistant. Specialized streams (IT, CA, Legal) may specify relevant domain experience. Freshers are welcome to apply for both tracks.

LIC Assistant — Education

Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. No minimum percentage required. Basic computer knowledge mandatory. Final-year students generally not eligible — degree must be complete by the cutoff date in the notification.

Nationality

Citizen of India. Specific categories of migrants, refugees, and persons of Indian origin as defined under Government of India norms may also be eligible.

Number of Attempts

LIC does not impose a cap on the number of attempts for AAO or LIC Assistant or Development Assistant — you can apply every cycle as long as you meet the age and educational eligibility criteria.

Key flexibility: Unlike RBI Grade B (graduate-only, 60% minimum, no alternate route), LIC AAO has no minimum percentage requirement at all — you just need to have passed your graduation from a recognized university, plus professional-qualification holders (CA/CS/ICWA/Ph.D.) can also apply — broadening the eligible pool considerably. Always cross-verify against the official LIC notification, as LIC revises specifics each recruitment cycle.

Selection Process

How You Get Selected.

LIC AAO is a 3-stage selection (Prelims → Mains → Interview), while LIC Assistant is a 2-stage selection followed by a qualifying language check (Prelims → Mains → Local Language Proficiency Test) — there is no interview for LIC Assistant.

LIC AAO — Prelims (Screening Stage)

Prelims is a qualifying-cum-shortlisting stage only — out of 70 marks, with English Language qualifying (not counted). Marks scored here are NOT added to your final merit; they only decide who is shortlisted to sit for Mains, based on the category-wise overall cutoff.

LIC AAO — Mains + Interview

Mains has an Objective Test (300 marks, counts for merit) and a qualifying Descriptive Test (25 marks, evaluated only if you clear the objective cutoff). LIC Assistant — Prelims (Screening Stage)

Prelims is out of 100 marks and is an overall qualifying cutoff with no sectional minimum. Like AAO, it is used only to shortlist candidates for Mains — the marks themselves do not carry forward into the final merit calculation.

LIC Assistant — Mains + Local Language Test

Mains is out of 200 marks across 5 sections, each with its own sectional qualifying cutoff. There is no interview for LIC Assistant — after Mains, shortlisted candidates take a Local Language Proficiency Test (qualifying, pass/fail only). Final Merit = Mains score alone.

Common final steps: Regardless of post, selection concludes with document verification and a pre-employment medical examination before a formal offer.
